Last Black Friday, there were not only BT Broadband new customer deals, but also opportunities for existing customers to upgrade or switch their broadband or TV.

When we checked the BT Black Friday offers available last November, we spotted a deal that would have got you three months of free broadband with a 24-month contract. This meant you could have saved up to £181 over the 24 months – pretty impressive.

If you want to add a TV bundle to your fibre broadband package, BT TV gives you Sky TV channels from NOW TV. Their Entertainment TV package includes Sky Atlantic, Sky One, Discovery, Comedy Central and 11 more channels from NOW TV, plus all your Freeview channels and AMC. BT’s Smart Hub is packed with impressive technology which can give you faster Wi-Fi connections in more rooms. If you live in an enabled area, you can opt for BT Infinity fibre broadband, which will allow the entire household to be online at once. It is great for streaming, gaming and watching catch-up TV as it delivers smooth high definition video. You can also opt for standard BT Broadband and choose unlimited usage with either.

BT offer three unlimited broadband packages, all of which include BT line rental and are available on 12-month contracts. Unlimited Broadband costs £26.99 a month (including a 30% welcome discount) and offers speeds up to 17Mb, while Unlimited Infinity 1 is £31.99 a month (including 30% welcome discount) and offers speeds up to 52Mb. Unlimited Infinity 2 offers speeds up to 76Mb and £49.99 a month (£53.99 after 12 months).

When buying broadband, BT will agree a date for your service to be activated and will send you an email or letter confirming this. They will keep you informed of progress and contact you immediately if there are any issues. If they need to send you equipment, this will arrive by Royal Mail the day before your activation date. You will also be sent instructions on how and when to connect your BT Home Hub.

Broadband typically comes into your home via a telephone line. There are two cables for this - copper and fibre optic. Copper delivers ADSL and ADSL2+ broadband from the telephone exchange to your house, and longer copper means weaker signal and slower broadband. Fibre optic cables run from the telephone exchange to a street cabinet, from where copper cables connect to your house. Your broadband will be faster the closer you are to the cabinet.

It is easy to switch to BT Broadband. Simply choose one of their Standard or Infinity packages online and they will manage everything for you. They will aim to switch you over to BT within two weeks, or you can choose a later date if you wish, and it will only take about 30 minutes. Your Home Hub will be delivered to you and you can connect it yourself quickly and easily.
