This Black Friday, to help you bag the very best bargains - and save as much money as possible - TopCashback has teamed up with The Coupon King, Jordon Cox. Here, Jordon shares his personal top tips to get the best deals and max your cash!
It’s the busiest shopping day of the year - Black Friday is upon us!
For people like me, it’s an exciting time! The chance to look around for super cheap offers, and get some Christmas shopping done.
I’ve had some absolutely brilliant bargains on Black Friday over the years. £4 return flights to Gothenburg, Sweden was a highlight.
A little out of the ordinary - but a SIM only phone contract with 50GB of data for £7 a month was another huge thrill for me!
But for others, Black Friday can be a little overwhelming. How do you know what’s a good deal? Where do you find those diamonds? (The really good deals, not the expensive gems!).
Jordon Cox, aka The Coupon King, rounds up his top tips to get more for your money this Black Friday
If you hop straight into the Black Friday sales with no preparation, you’re not alone! TopCashback’s research revealed that 53% of people don’t do any strategising or research ahead of the big day. And shockingly, only 12% of us keep an eye on prices before the sales start.
However, in order to make the most out of the day, just a tiny bit of planning can go a long way. Not only to get the best deals, but also making sure you’re not caught out by ‘dud’ deals!
There are genuinely good deals to be had on Black Friday though. Often, products can be found at the cheapest ever price - or match the cheapest they’ve ever been.
Of course, you shouldn’t go overboard buying things you don’t need, but if you have a list of items you need to buy, or see things as potential Christmas presents - then you’ll be saving some money.
So without further ado, here are some of my tips to make sure you get the best deals on Black Friday (and even stack savings on top of each other!).
1) Check Historic Pricing
There’s a pretty easy way to see if you’re getting a good price now - or if it’s been cheaper in the past.
There’s a tool called Camel Camel Camel, which allows you to see the historic pricing of any item on Amazon over the past two years. Amazon tend to price match all of its online competitors - so you can be pretty confident it’ll have been around this price point elsewhere in the past.
On this website, you’ll find a graph showing you the ups and downs of pricing, including what the cheapest price has ever been.
So if you’re looking to buy something, you can check if the Black Friday price is all it’s cracked up to be.
2) Do A Price Comparison
Before you click that ‘buy’ button on an item, check to see if the place you’re ordering from is the cheapest.
Across the Black Friday period, prices can go up and down as brands compete to be cheapest - so it’s worth looking around at all the online retailers that sell what you’re looking for. Don’t assume the first place you go is the cheapest!
Even if prices are the same, you might find retailers offer longer warranties or benefits like free streaming subscriptions - which might make it better shopping there.
One easy way to do this is using Google Shopping. Type in your item into Google, click the ‘shopping’ tab, and it’ll list the price at most online retailers.
3) Deal Stack!
It’s all well and good getting a Black Friday deal, but you can usually save even more by deal stacking.
Cashback websites like TopCashback are a great way to stack those already cheap Black Friday prices with an extra cashback saving.
If an item used to be £100, is in the Black Friday sale for £50 - but there’s also 10% cashback, it knocks another £5 off the total. It might not sound like much, but those pennies and pounds add up.
You can take it even further too… if you have a cashback credit or debit card, it can stack even more. Clicking through TopCashback, getting the Black Friday deal, and paying with a cashback credit card can give you the ultimate saving.
Alternatively, you can stack a great Black Friday deal with cashback on gift cards for use in store. TopCashback has a feature called TopGiftCards that gives you money back when you buy a gift card for a retailer.
For example, buying a Currys gift card of any amount gets you 4% back. So instead of paying full price for a TV, purchase a £250 gift card to get you £10 in cashback… then just pay with the gift card as your payment method.
Add this to a Black Friday deal - a £370 TV that’s down to £250 at Currys, and you’ll save that extra £10 with the gift card cashback. Not to be sniffed at!
It can be easy to forget that the cashback deals are there, so if you’re using a laptop or desktop, it’s worth looking at getting the browser extension installed, so you never miss out on some extra money off.
With these tips, hopefully you’ll ace Black Friday, and pick up a few good deals. With a little bit of research and know-how, you’ll be an expert shopper!
