The latest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is here, we’ve been lucky enough to try it out…

We’ve been sent a handset from Samsung to let you know our thoughts on their latest release and whether it’s worth getting your hands on one.

If you’re looking for a phone that can do it all, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is probably the phone for you. It looks great, feels premium and most importantly it just works. We’ve tested the handset for around a week, and have been amazed by some of the features Samsung have included, most notably Galaxy AI.

Read on to find out our full thoughts on the phone.

First Impressions

Upon unboxing, the phone looks and feels premium. We were given the pink colour for our test, though Silver Shadow and Navy are also available, with Crafted Black and White exclusive to Samsung.com.

The phone is packed with productivity features, most of which are AI-based1. The 7.6” main display and the 6.3” cover screen are vivid and bright, and the crease is barely visible.

Though I’m far from being a photographer, it’s evident the three rear cameras (50MP, 12MP and 10MP) are fantastic, and the Galaxy AI features included on the camera are mind-blowing!

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 – Design

This was my first experience of any sort of foldable handset.

Given the nature of the foldable element, I was expecting the phone to be quite bulky and weighty but it’s far from it! The phone effortlessly slides in and out of any pocket or bag in the same way as any standard handset. At just 239g, it’s only slightly heavier than the latest single-screen phones on offer from Apple and Samsung.

Whilst admittedly my day-to-day phone (Samsung Galaxy S21) is a few years old, both screens on the Galaxy Z Fold6 are incredibly bright and vivid, with Samsung claiming this to be significantly brighter than its predecessor.

The massive 7.6” main display is perfect for productivity, gaming and video content, all of which are massively enhanced for multi-tasking. The fold crease is barely visible to the eye, though you can definitely feel this during use. The standard 6.3” front display is plenty big enough for everyday tasks without the need to open your phone.

Supercharged Multi-Tasking with AI

Samsung claim the Galaxy Z Fold6 is the ultimate productivity phone. It’s hard to disagree with this; the AI features are mind-blowing when they work, though on the odd occasion we found results weren’t the best.

This paired with so much screen space really does make getting more done on your device easier than ever. We’ve highlighted some of our favourite productivity and AI features below, though this is not an extensive list as there are far too many!

  • Circle to Search with Google2 – simply circle anything onscreen and instantly discover more about anything on screen without switching apps. We found this to work seamlessly, want to find an item of furniture in a movie? Your favourite influencer’s clothing? A delicious-looking meal? Just circle them to find out all of these!2

  • Transcript Assist3 – turn a voice recording of a meeting or conversation into detailed notes, even adding colour coding for each speaker.

  • Note Assist3 – helps to summarise the transcript from above and even translate it into other languages.

Performance & Battery Life

The Z Fold6 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy and boasts 12GB in RAM.

In simple terms, this makes the handset blazingly fast. The difference between this and my current handset, which is admittedly not a top-of-the-line device is immediately clear to see. Using multiple apps simultaneously, streaming videos, and gaming there was no lag whatsoever, and the detail courtesy of the bright and vivid screens was amazing.

The handset comes with 256GB storage as standard, which we felt was more than enough. However, there is the option to go up to 512GB or even 1TB in storage if needed.

In terms of battery life4, the huge 4,273mAh5 battery is fit for such a powerful phone, during extensive usage, the battery didn’t get hot, and lasted seemingly forever! Whilst the charging speed isn’t market-leading at 25W, it does charge plenty quick enough for my somewhat moderate use of the handset, so no concerns here.

Camera

As mentioned, I’m far from being a photographer, however, it’s clear the cameras on the device are up there with the best in market offerings. As Becca mentioned in our Galaxy S24 Ultra review which you can find here, the performance of the camera on this device was outstanding. The Galaxy Z Fold6 is no different, every photo is turned into a work of art, and the power of Galaxy AI when editing is simply brilliant. Someone or something in the background of a photo you’ve takenSimply circle them and Galaxy AI will cleverly fill in the background to remove them from the image6.

We really did feel the AI element of the camera, as well as in the phone generally, were excellent. The Photo Assist6 feature gives you the power of a professional editing studio at your fingertips.

Want to add a hat or sunglasses to your dog? Simply draw them an outline on the image and Galaxy AI will generate them into realistic-looking items to enhance your picture. Whilst this is perhaps a bit gimmicky, and far from perfect, we really did enjoy using this feature on the phone, and this will continue to improve in time.

Verdict

Overall, we felt the handset was brilliant. It really does feel like a do-it-all phone with endless features, two vivid and large screens, a fantastic camera and an AI package to assist in everything you use your phone for.
