Royal Naval Association Newton Abbot Branch

The National Royal Naval Association was formed in 1950. In 1954 the Association was granted a Royal Charter and H. M. The Queen reserved herself the right to be its first Patron and still remains so. The two main aims of the Association are: A. To further the efficiency of the service in which the membership of the Association have served or are serving, by preserving the full traditions of the service. Thus achieving those ideals for which our naval forces have fought, and perpetuating the memory of those members who have died in the service of their country. B. To relieve members of the Association who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress.

RSPCA -Canterbury District Branch

We work with the National organisation and its Inspectors but are an independent charity and entirely self funding. The only finances available to us come from local supporters. Apart from shop managers, everyone else involved with the branch gives their time and expertise unpaid as a volunteer. Even the managers work a percentage of their week as volunteers. We have two main objectives: ¦Providing care and a place of safety for unwanted, abused or injured animals. ¦Raising the funds to be able to carry out this work. Currently we are able to take in and rehome cats although we have now outgrown the present space. We also offer a first stop facility to injured or sick wildlife. A shortage of suitable accommodation means that rescued dogs have to be sent outside our area.

Ryedale Dog Rescue

Ryedale Dog Rescue was formed in 2005 and became a registered charity in January 2007. Originally set up to rehome abandoned and unwanted animals within the Ryedale area it soon became apparent that there were a large number of dogs in the East Riding of Yorkshire area and beyond facing the threat of unnecessary destruction and desperately needing our help. From humble beginnings homing 12 dogs in the first year we now home approximately 80 dogs per year and in 2018 homed our 1000th dog since we began. Ryedale Dog Rescue is run entirely by volunteers who take no personal expenses from the charity. Following our Annual General Meeting in April 2012 we unanimously agreed to adopt a non-destruction policy meaning no dog taken into our care would never be destroyed (other than on veterinary advice due to illness) and that we would implement a total neutering policy so all RDR dogs are either neutered while in our care or within six months of moving to their new homes dependant on age.
