Get Going Travel Insurance

Get Going Travel Insurance are specialists in travel insurance, insuring customers with a range of pre-existing medical conditions –from asthma and high blood pressure to more serious or terminal conditions such as cancer or past stroke - with a variety of policies that suit any budget. We believe that travel insurance should be available to anyone, not just those who present less risk; people with pre-existing medical conditions want to travel just as much as those without, and that shouldn’t mean that a travel insurance policy should cost more than their trip.

Policy Types

Wherever you are going, or for how long you are planning on travelling for, there are various travel insurance policies to choose from at Get Going. Their single trip travel insurance is a one-off policy which will cover for a trip duration of up to 94 days. It is perfect for those planning their annual holiday or who are in need of a last-minute travel insurance policy.

There is no upper age limit, while it will provide cancellation cover from the day of purchase, and can be used for trips around the world. Single trip policies can also be used for any UK trip of three days or more by individuals, couples, families and groups.

If you are planning on booking more than one holiday abroad in the next year, you could save with multi-trip insurance. Available to UK residents aged between 17 and 79, it is also ideal if you make business trips or have a holiday home, though the maximum trip length is 31 days. If you are aged 55 and under and are planning on going on an extended holiday, longstay travel insurance will provide cover for trips up to 94 days.

You will need to state the duration of your trip during the quote process, though you can always call them to extend it. You will be covered for travelling to multiple countries within your chosen geographical area. Their backpacker travel insurance is designed for travelling light. Whether you are a student taking a year out or going on a personal journey, it is available to those aged between 17 and 35, and can provide cover for up to 18 months of continuous travel.

Policy Extensions

If you are planning certain activities while you are away or need additional protection for equipment, there are various policy extensions available to you.

Due to the level of risk involved, most regular policies will not include cover for winter sports as standard. However, Get Going's winter sports cover extension is available on all types of policies and is great for ski and snowboard holidays. It will cover for lost or stolen rental equipment and even if there is no snow.

If you are going on a cruise, you will need to add their cruise extension to your policy. It is available on single and multi-trip policies, and will provide you with cover for cabin confinement, if your itinerary is changed, if you cannot use your prepaid excursion and more. Choosing excess waiver cover means your travel insurance policy will have zero excess, which could save you hundreds of pounds if you need to make a claim.

It is available on all cover levels, while excess waivers can be selected alongside other extensions. The fee is applicable per policy rather than per person. If you love to take your tech with you on holiday, you should think about their gadget insurance extension. Their premier policies include cover for gadgets as standard, but you will need to add the extension to others. It includes up to £1,000 if your gadget is lost, stolen or damaged, plus cover for unauthorised calls.

If you are a carer, the Get Going carers extension has been designed for non-professionals. It will provide cancellation and curtailment cover for a non-travelling individual for whom you are the daily carer and who is living with an existing medical condition. If you book a holiday and the person you care for gets ill, is injured or dies and you are no longer able to go on, or need to cut short, your trip, it will cover you. It also covers you if the person who agreed to cover for you becomes ill, is injured or dies.

By Traveller

If you are going on a trip with relatives, you can keep everyone insured for less, under one policy, with their family holiday insurance.

It is available on single trip, multi-trip and longstay policies, and you can tailor it with one or more of their extensions. You will also be able to choose the insurance cover and excess levels which suit you.

If you are planning a big trip, there are two options when it comes to family worldwide travel insurance. These are worldwide including or excluding the USA, Canada and the Caribbean. Couples travel insurance allows you to take advantage of a discounted premium and is available to those who are married or have lived together for at least six months. You can use it to travel together or separately.

If you are expecting a child, Get Going's pregnancy travel insurance policies include emergency medical expenses cover for pregnancy and childbirth up to week 28. From the start of week 29 to week 40, there is no cover for claims relating to normal pregnancy and childbirth or cancellation, though medical expenses and cancellation cover will be provided if any complications arise.

As you would expect, Get Going also offer great value senior travel insurance at fantastic prices. Their single trip policies cover anyone up to the age of 85 and their multi-trip policies can be bought by travellers up to the age of 74. They will cover thousands of medical conditions and provide doctor-led advice in the event of medical emergencies abroad.

Cover Levels

If you are buying single trip or multi-trip travel insurance from Get Going, you will have the option to choose from Basic, Standard and Premier cover levels.

A basic policy will cover for such things as if you are unable to go on your trip, your departure is delayed by 12 hours or more, you need emergency medical treatment, you suffer lost or stolen cash or personal possessions, or if you need legal advice.

Opt for Standard cover, meanwhile, and you will also benefit from cover for if you miss your outbound connection, public hospital inconvenience benefit, if your possessions are delayed by 12 hours, if your passport is lost or stolen and pet care.

Take out a Premier policy, however, and it will cover you in the event of your end supplier failing before you travel — or while you are away — and if a force majeure event occurs while you are away. If you are buying longstay or backpacker insurance, there is only one cover level.
