Land's End Features

The Lands' End story can be traced back to 1963 when Gary Comer, a former advertising copywriter and avid sailor, opened Lands' End Yacht Stores Inc in Chicago.

However, the 1970s saw a shift from the company's nautical origins to a fully fledged and much admired clothing brand. The decade also saw the company move from Chicago to rural Dodgeville in Wisconsin. Lands' End continued to expand throughout the 1980s, during which period it was listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange.

The following decade saw the company venture outside of the USA for the first time — to Oakham in England and then Japan and Germany. The landsend.co.uk website was launched in 1995, while Lands' End was named one of the 100 best companies to work for in America during this period.

The dawning of a new millennium witnessed the beginning of a new chapter for Lands' End as they were acquired by Sears, while the German operation was voted one of the best places to work in the country. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2013 and the principles laid down by their founder are still very much at the heart of what Lands' End do to this day.

To take advantage of their hemming service, which they offer on many styles. All you'll need to do is quote your inside leg seam measurement to the nearest half inch when ordering. Lands' End are able to invisibly hem, add turn-ups and even create military style hems. If you opt for this service, you'll need to allow one extra working day for delivery.

You can also personalise your garment with a motif or flag from a wide selection available, which can be added to virtually any item. They cost just £3.50 per flag or motif. The gift wrapping option will see your item wrapped in tissue paper and placed in an elegant gift box tied with a grosgrain ribbon.

They'll also include a gift card featuring your own personal message and add an extra layer of protective wrapping to ensure it looks stunning when it arrives — all for an extra £5 per box. Lands' End's monogramming service is a great way to add a personal touch to something, and they can be embroidered on to polo shirts, jackets, towels and more.

This service costs £3.50 and will add one working day to your delivery timescale. They've chosen what they've found to be the most popular styles and colours, as well as a contrasting yet complementary thread for most items. They'll embroider up to 10 characters (including spaces and punctuation) in the font you choose on the left side of the chest. If you want it in another position, you'll need to contact their sales advisors.
