The Perfume Shop was founded in 1992 with the aim of making luxury, designer perfume brands accessible to everyone at affordable prices.

Their first perfume shops opened in Birmingham, Milton Keynes and Belfast, while the brand went international in 2003 when they launched in the Republic of Ireland, trading under the name of Perfume Direct. The following year saw them open The Perfume Shop in selected Superdrug stores, while 2011 saw them open their 200th store and launch their Rewards loyalty scheme. A Store to Door service was established in 2012, while their first concept store - in Stratford Westfield - was opened a year later.

Some stores began offering a Shutl service in 2014, providing same day delivery, while 2015 saw them offer click & collect in all of their stores and named on the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies to Work For for the fourth year.
