I took out car insurance with this provider online using MoneySupermarket. Com. When I received my policy a few minutes later, I discovered a couple of errors. Hastings direct had started my insurance a day earlier than I’d indicated on my online form. They had also reduced the value of my car. I called to advise them of the errors. I was told this could not be corrected without my policy being cancelled and re-quoted and I also need to take into account that the premium I originally paid may also increase when re-quoted. I informed HastingsDirect that I was not willing to pay a higher premium than that originally taken out and already paid in full. True to their word, they re-quoted my policy at a slightly higher amount than what I originally paid. When I refused to pay the difference in price, I was immediately told that if I cancel the policy, which incidentally is not even 24hrs old, I will be penalised £20 retainer fee! Apparently, this was noted on the website when I took out the policy, but HastingsDirect cannot even send me evidence to support this claim involving the £20 policy. I will be referring my complaint to the financial ombudsman as HastingsDirect are misleading consumers.

Terrible - refused to pay out. Claimed that we 'didn't meet their requirements"! Followed the link, bought the insurance - it didn't seem to track. Raised a claim and gave all the details requested including the policy number - advised that the policy number was incorrect, although this was the number given in all e-mail and written correspondence from Hastings. Took almost 2 years before they declined claim - now I've no way of finding out if there was another policy number. Just glad I never had to claim on the insurance - would they have told me the policy number was invalid despite us paying for it every month??? AVOID!! Really unhappy with Hastings.

Took out policy in August 2016 still pending on top cashback feel mislead will not use this merchant again. Expect to get paid or I'm taking it further legally. Looking at other reviews others have had poor service too. BT Sky and other pay on time and quickly. Sort this merchant out top cashback

my mate very ill stupidly got into car in drive of house to straighten up car(dont ask why)drove accidentally like a rocket and demolished his garage and wrote off 8000 pound car.Hastings paid up without quibble to rebuild garage.Car not insured.

Do not touch this supplier. Bought home insurance in Dec 2015, June 2016 cashback recorded but still not confirmed. Then bought car insurance in Feb 2016, did not record and cannot lodge complaint with merchant until June 2016. Will never use Hastings Direct again!

Update on previous review . The full amount has now appeared as payable , without having to make a claim , so I withdraw the criticism about cashback going to zero

Like a lot of people it tracked correctly and then went to zero . I will see what happens with a claim but looking at others I wont hold my breath . The insurance itself was a good price but beware I needed to add an expensive watch my son bought and this cost £25 just to add plus an extra premium . Any alteration is £25 charge .

It was easy and straight forward enough to earn the cashback, but having to wait 6 months to receive it, I feel, is extreme. I bought my home policy in September, so the cashback is about due now. I'll be watching and waiting and if I don't receive it within the next week or so, I'll submit a service issue enquiry, but I don't think I should have to do that. If it's on offer it should be paid within a reasonable time. Regards Jan
