Great deal on the cashback but First Utility are an absolute nightmare to deal with on everything. Three months down the line they are still trying to sort out my account and bill. In the process of threatening legal action and the Ombudsman against them but they just don't care. Best avoid this company. If in doubt search the web for First Utility reviews before proceeding - I wish I had!

They messed up in not drawing down money against my direct debit. Said they'd sorted it out when I rang (25 minutes in queue). They hadn't sorted it out and next I knew was threat of debt collector!

BEWARE CON MERCHANTS. ALL THEY WANT IS £300 UP FRONT REGARDLESS OF A PERFECT HISTORY.

Avoid these scammers. All they want is £3oo up front no matter how good your history is. 20 years at same address, Perfect credit rating and on electoral register. JUST A CON FOR THEIR CASH FLOW

Still waiting on cashback after 4 months. First Utility offer no customer service, no staff to answer calls or emails. Every time I call, because they have cocked up my switch to them, I spend over an hour on hold, each time to be told they are taking on more staff, I switched as they were the cheapest, but I'm finding out that was a terrible mistake. Avoid at all costs.

AVOID FIRST UTILITY LIKE THE PLAGUE - they claim they'll save you money on your tarrifs, but when you factor in the cost involved in trying to make contact with them (last time on hold for 1 hour 9 minutes) and they completely ignore your emails so you have no choice but to try and ring, what you would save on your bills you more than pay for with your own time, phone bills and sanity. I'd rather live in a field than have these fools supplying my gas/electricity. Oh and in addition, after 8 months or so they'll contact you to tell you that you owe them money and that if you don't pay it, it'll be forwarded on - so you're then back in the vicious cycle above of not being able to speak to anyone - they managed to churn out their reminder overdue bill letters no problem however.......... are the positive reviews on here made up by first utility themselves???????

Avoid like the plague - worst company I have dealt with Do NOT use this company, unless you want to spend hours on correspondence correcting errors from this company , that are repeated time and time again. I wish I had never come across First Utility and can only hope this review and others on here, save you the same pain. Background: during the recent price hikes, I looked to move from npower. FU seemed to be the cheapest. I signed up online and duly emailed a few friends to state what I had saved. Within an hour several friends pointed me to review sites such as this, plus bad experiences they had heard from others. Following the 7 day cooling off procedure , I cancelled the move of service within 1 hour of signing up. As others have stated, this was ignored by First Utility and they started to ask for payments. I contacted First Utility to explain the situation, they apologised and stated I should contact my existing supplier to block any move request, as FU had no control over its automated systems ! During the next 6 weeks , not only did they withdraw money from my account, but also chased me for payment via email. Numerous calls later and false promises that everything had been sorted , I eventually had someone confirm my account was closed and my email details deleted. I have asked for this to be put in writing, as I have no faith in this company. My biggest fear is having my credit rating impacted by this company, who have complete lack of control of their systems. Once again AVOID this company ..... You have been warned Update 2: Still being chased by this incompetent company for money I do not owe. The letters are getting more threatening with bold "action required" and threats to take further action ! So basically the last person I spoke to lied that my records had been updated and I wouldn't be chased, Back on the phone yet again, in a 40 min queue , to try and sort this shambles out. BBC Watchdog, please hurry up and investigate these cowb

Absolutely terrible customer service from this utility supplier. It took over 3mth to sort out the transfer of the gas supply from my old supplier to first utility. I spent ages on the phone and sending emails but no one ever got back to me. Avoid at all costs.

In follow up to my previous comments on this merchant, there is nothing to report except that we are 4 months further down the line and they are still harassing me for a bill which is not mine, covering a period which is not applicable and the service is as appalling as ever. A manager was appointed to personally oversee my complaint and he was to be dealing with me by weekly phone calls logging the progress of the account, which had been placed into dispute, supposedly a move which would put a stop to further demands. Well I got 3 phone calls, no further progress and the demands for payment appear to have been reinstated. I am now proceeding with a complaint via the Ombudsman. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere for your energy supply. It is not worth it for the little cashback they offer. You will spend more than that trying to sort out the mess as a result of their incompetence further down the line. At the very least, google First Utility Reviews and inform yourself before proceeding. Their average rating out of hundreds of reviews falls below 2 stars. Quite frankly it's 2 more stars than I'd give them

I have been with First Utility for 6 months and the service is terrible. They cannot produce a regular bill for me which means payments coming out on different dates. When I complained I just got thanked for my patience while they were sorting out their issues. Terrible. NOT RECOMMENDED!

I switched to this company for my elderly parents and run their account on my email but since a meter change they stopped sending bills. iI cannot submit meter reads and get fobbed off each time i ring (usually holding for 45 mins at a time) saying there is a problem with billing and will be sorted in 7 days!! it is now 3 months since last bill and this is leaving my parents distressed as they pay monthly on receipt of bill, but no bill means they can't pay (don't know what to pay) and are now effectively hundreds of pounds in arrears!! I also have duel fuel with first utility (on regular monthly payment set up, which doubled within weeks of joining) I rarely receive regular bills! the direct debit discount that accrues over the year, has not been paid approx £160. THIS COMPANY HAS TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE -- AND JUST GIVES EXCUSES. I am currently in the process of getting a new supplier....GOOD RIDDENCE

Prospective customers, beware! This company's little lure to new customers at the time I joined was advertising a smaller supplier whose aim was to provide personal service and convenience of online bill management. Well customer service is somewhere between appalling and non existent! It took them months to start taking the money from my bank account. Fortunately I had set funds aside each month so that I could cover myself for the unavoidable arrears which immediately appeared. It took them 6 months to generate the first bill, another arrived 3 months later and in 13 months I have had no further bills. So much for online convenience! I have now changed suppliers and completed the online form a month back with all the required information and meter readings. A few days later I sent an email asking confirmation that they had received this information and it took another 5 days for an email to be sent back to me stating "Sorry, we haven't received your info, please resubmit." I duly did so and heard nothing back. A week later I took it upon myself to call them (this is a painful process so ensure your phone is fully charged and you are sitting beside a coffee maker!) I duly gave all the information only to be told that they had actually received this via the online form! That was 50 minutes of my life I'll never get back! I was told to cancel my direct debit which I did. Last week I got an email telling me that since I had cancelled my direct debit ..... blah blah, as though it was a total surprise. There seems to be no communication within this company or with its system set up. It has been this way since the get-go of my dealings with them and quite frankly I cannot wait to be rid of them. i know they owe me a credit for the balance on my last bill. They won't know this yet as they seem to have a problem generating bills to begin with. Unless you are extremely bored, have an above average sense of humour and copious amounts of free time on your hands, st

This company is frankly dishonest. I moved house in January and submitted my final meter readings on the day of the move. Six months later, I have received two incorrect bills, made numerous phone calls, sent numerous emails and made a formal complaint, but no sign of a refund. I am in the process of issuing proceedings to recover the debt.

My cashback was tracked correctly, but after one month I got the message that merchant has declined it without specifying any reason despite fulfilling all t/c, I have raised the claim but no sign of any decision by merchant, they are sitting on my ticket for the last two months. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY........

Customer service is very expensive to call, but it's the only way to reach them as they don't respond to email.

Painfully slow to pay out cashback. Been almost 5 months now and still no sign of it. They screwed up the transfer of my services to them which took 22 phone calls to sort out. Customer service is at best rubbish and beyond diabolical as the norm. Don't bother with this bunch of incompetents. They are useless.

Worst experience ever through TopCashback. 5 months into new supplier and £40 cashback is still sat in the 'pending' queue - and that's only after I had to raise a complaint that it hadn't tracked. Good job it's cheap gas and electric or I'd be really annoyed!

As with most suppliers offering a cheaper supply they are sometimes overwhelmed by new customer’s joining them. This was the case with me. They also had an issue with the smart meter fitters; i.e. not fitting on an arranged date. This happened twice and also a failure to reply to my complaint. I received £20 on 3 occasions for the missed appointments. The fitters (a contracted firm) were at fault and measures put in place to correct mistakes. First Utility also took on more customer service staff and was undertaking a training program in December last year. I very large number of new customers joined them when British gas put their prices up. It’s nice to be able to see exactly my usage each day, and also the much lower prices I am now paying.

I signed up to this deal back in October 2012. My first utility account went live at the end of November 2012 and I'm still waiting for my cashback. Still says pending. Plus my energy bills (Gas and Electric) have trippled even though the prices are supposed to be cheaper?!?!?!? Not happy at all!

When taking out it was £30 for single and £40 for duel fuel. Took duel fuel and it has tracked and confirmed but at the £30 instead of the £40 advertised. Not paid out yet but don't expect it to change to the £40 either
