I have been with BT for more than 6 months. I called BT and ask them to move my service to my new address. They wanted to charge me £130 for moving thier service to my new address or I can get it free of I sign for another 18 months contract. BT has bad services customer and very very slow internet on peak time. So I told them to cancel my contract which I had to pay £180, which is worth it than being with BT. I have signed up with Talktalk and I get the same service I had with BT with saving £16 a month. Thats saving of £288 thats lots money. Stay away from BT, because you ll be asked to pay for connection when you move home.

Just going to add here, if you contact BT shortly after your first bill and say that you have seen better offers elsewhere and you are not happy, the offers they are then able to give you are hugely discounted to those you find online. It will lock you into (usually) another 12 month or possibly 18 month contract, however the penalty for leaving BT before your contract ends is usually as little as 2.50/month.
If you stay with BT, make sure you call every 6 months or so asking about their deals and with comparisons to other providers, I currently save over £30/month on their advertised deals.

I was thinking about the cashback but the reviews put me off. Just want to thank the first 10 reviewers of BT, plus had enough of spending my life on hold to these foreign call centres.

I was changing to BT for Broadband and calls following a call when they persuaded me to change. I was given an activation date 23 February and they then chased me for my MAC code which i gave them. However, nothing happened on 23 or 24 February so I tried to call them and it took soooooo long to get through to them and then the line cut off so called again, another 30 mins wasted and was told they had no knowledge of my order. Passed from one person to another and last one took my telephone numbers and email address but again the line cut off. As they took my contact details and I had no means of calling them back I expected them to call me back but silence. Once installed the service MIGHT be OK but it is a nightmare getting to talk to them . I have wasted hours so will not be dealing with them.

In addition to the below, they are apparently incapable of answering their phone lines now (despite the fact that they claim to be open until 7pm), and FYI Virgin also offer late afternoon/early evening slots, so less time off work required!

Think of any negative four letter word and that will apply to BT in my opinion! I booked installation, and the earliest appointment was almost a month later (note for cashback purposes, it states that BT will be contacted a month after tracking to confirm account set-up). The engineer did turn up on Wednesday 24th, but couldn't install the line or arrange connection, so I am now expected to take another half day off work in the hope that they may be able to install at the end of March! Earliest installation date! Obviously I'm cancelling the service! For your information, Virgin Media are able to get someone out to me on Monday, a full month before BT!!!

I already had a BT landline so received about £50 cashback pretty promptly but boy, did I need it. I joined their Total Broadband Option1 in Sep 2010 (first 3 months at £7.99 p.m.), used up (apparently) my 10gb allowance in the first week, took 3 weeks to upgrade to Option2 but exceeded my 40gb usage allowance (apparently) and got charged an extra £50 for that, then in December went over my 40gb again (apparently) and got charged another £20 extra for that. Have now been offered Option3 at £40 p.m. plus line rental of £13.50, plus calls. Going to be paying about £70 p.m. now :(

Don't join BT broadband if you have a domain and want to transfer it in.
Spent about 2 hours on the phone trying to find a BT CS agent who understood that people can own domains, but no one did, so I had to cancel and go to another ISP.
